Paris FC 3-0 Nice: the newcomers announce themselves at Jean-Bouin

Full-time:Paris FC3-0Nice

A statement in the capital

For a club still finding its feet back among France's elite, beating an established Ligue 1 side 3-0 is more than three points — it is a statement. Paris FC took the game to Nice from the start, led through Lassine Sinayoko on 21 minutes, and never looked back. The Stade Jean-Bouin has not often hosted nights like this, and a young project announced itself with a performance full of belief and cutting edge. This was the kind of result that tells a newly promoted side they belong.

Clinical where it counted

The shot counts were level — 15 apiece — but the story lies in the quality behind them. Paris FC's expected-goals figure of 2.74 dwarfed Nice's 0.57, and the hosts turned their better chances into goals while Nice found nothing. Samir Chergui doubled the lead six minutes into the second half from an Ilan Kebbal assist, and substitute Vincent Marchetti sealed it in the 89th minute. Three shots on target, three goals — the definition of a clinical night in front of goal.

Nice's goal drought deepens

The visitors arrived carrying a worrying trend, and left with it worsened. Nice have now gone several matches without scoring — a run of goalless draws followed here by a three-goal defeat. For all their possession and equal share of shots, the underlying quality simply was not there: 0.57 xG from fifteen attempts tells of efforts from range and half-openings rather than clear sights of goal. A team that cannot find the net will always be vulnerable to exactly this kind of afternoon.

Momentum for the newcomers

Results like this are how promoted clubs build a season and a belief. Paris FC combined organisation, energy and finishing to dismantle a bigger name, and the clean sheet will please them as much as the goals. Nice, meanwhile, must solve their scoring problem before it defines their campaign. On this evidence, the gap between the ambitious newcomer and the established side was nowhere to be found — if anything, it ran the other way.
