25 Shots, Zero Goals: Frosinone Stun Fiorentina With Ruthless Efficiency

Full-time:Fiorentina0-3Frosinone

The scoreline that defies the map

A 0-3 home defeat usually implies a team overrun. Fiorentina were the opposite of overrun — they had 60% of the ball and took twenty-five shots to Frosinone's twelve. And they scored none of them. This was a shock built entirely on the gap between chances made and chances taken: the hosts dominated territory and volume, the visitors dominated the only column that pays out, and the result was one of those afternoons that makes a fool of the possession chart.

Raimondo and the away smash-and-grab

Frosinone's game plan was ruthless in its simplicity. Antonio Raimondo opened the scoring on 26 minutes from a Giorgi Kvernadze pass, Gabriele Bracaglia doubled it on 38, and Raimondo returned on 68 to complete his brace and the rout, this time set up by Bracaglia. Three meaningful attacks, three goals — from twelve shots the visitors produced six on target and buried half of them. Against a team pouring forward, they defended their box, waited for their moments, and were merciless when they came.

Where Fiorentina's afternoon leaked away

Twenty-five shots yielding 1.88 expected goals and, crucially, only four on target tells the real story of Fiorentina's dominance: it was wide, hurried and low on quality. Volume without accuracy is the classic signature of a side pressing hard but shooting from the wrong places, and against a compact, clinical opponent it is a recipe for exactly this kind of ambush. The hosts had the pressure; they never had the precision, and 0-3 is the brutal arithmetic of that shortfall.

The cruelty of the game

Football's occasional cruelty is that it does not reward effort or territory — only finishing. Fiorentina will feel they did almost everything but score, and in a sense they did; Frosinone will not care, because they took what they were given and made every touch in the final third count. For the hosts, the lesson is uncomfortable but clear: chance quality, not chance quantity, is what turns dominance into points. For Frosinone, a fearless, clinical away display is the kind of result that defines an underdog's season.
